Everyone knows there's a lot of history in the Alexandria area, but were you aware that the city is also home to the nation's oldest continuously running farmers market? It's true! Locals have been shopping at Old Town Farmers' Market since the time when George Washington used to send the harvest from Mount Vernon to be sold here. A lot has changed since then, of course, but much remains the same: the tables are still piled high with colorful displays of freshly-picked fruits and veggies that were grown in the surrounding countryside. 

This year, the market has introduced online pre-ordering to the market, which allows you to enjoy the market, while also skipping all the lines. You just head to the website, scan the list of vendors, and place your order ahead of time. Each vendor will then have your order pre-packed and waiting for you when you arrive at their table.
