Like most large public events in 2020, First Night Alexandria’s New Year’s Eve Festival went on hiatus last holiday season. But as December 31st, 2021 rolls around, that hiatus is set to come to an end. The family-friendly event will return to Old Town at noon for a full day’s worth of celebrations.
It kicks off with a bash for kiddos who might not make it to midnight at the GW Mason Temple, with a repeat Kids Celebrate NYE! Soiree from 3 to 5 p.m. if that works better for your schedule. The fun for grown-ups really begins at 6 p.m. when the Welcome & Kickoff commences at Market Square. Local musicians will take to the stages at indoor and outdoor venues around town until 11 p.m., but the Countdown to 2022 Street Party begins at Market Square at 10 p.m. Spend the next couple of hours dancing, drinking, and snacking as you get ready to greet a fresh new year. Then ring in 2022 at midnight as you ooh and ahh over a fireworks display that takes place above the waters of the Potomac River.
