Get Your Hands Dirty at Open Volunteer Day on August 13th

  |     |   Uncategorized

There’s some evidence to support the theory that getting your hands dirty in the garden can actually boost your mood—and being out in nature never hurts, either! If you’re looking to help your community and participate in some self-care at the same time, RSVP for the next Open Volunteer Day on August 13th at the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture.

The working farm exists to provide healthy and sustainably raised food for the community. You can learn all about that mission as you work alongside the farmers and other staff members at Arcadia Farm. You’ll help them plant food, remove weeds, and maybe even harvest some of their crops. You’ll be doing this work atop a piece of American history as some of the farm’s acreage was once owned by the nation’s first president, George Washington. Once the food has been collected, it’s sent out to the farm’s mobile markets which travel to food-insecure neighborhoods to provide fresh produce at affordable prices for the community. Make sure to dress in long pants and sleeves with close-toed shoes, and don’t forget to bring a refillable water bottle.
