Be Part of the Solution at the Shepherd Parkway Community Clean-Up on September 10th

  |     |   Uncategorized

In order to keep Washington, D.C.’s many greenspaces well-maintained, members of the community have to get involved and stay engaged. Join those neighbors and do your part during the Shepherd Parkway Community Clean-Up on September 10th. It’s the next installment of a monthly volunteer event geared toward keeping the Shepherd Parkway Corridor beautiful.

Even if you’ve never actually set foot on the parkland, you’ve probably driven by. The federally owned parkland covers the hills between I-295, Congress Heights, and Bellevue in southern D.C. It’s comprised of 197 acres of eastern hardwood forests, a habitat that bald eagles call home. The park also plays host to a pair of Civil War-era forts. However, a combination of invasive plant species and regular illegal dumping threatens the park’s fragile ecosystem and its historical elements. That’s why the community gathers monthly every second Saturday for a day of removing trash and invasive species together. RSVP for the September installment and dress in long sleeves and pants, in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, to join in and do your part.
