Alexandria’s Ghost & Graveyard Tours were originally offered by Doorways to Old Virginia, but Doorway owners Stella and Ed Michals retired and passed on the ghost tour business to one of Doorway’s veteran tour guides Wellington Watts. Watts then carried on the long-standing tradition by starting Alexandria Colonial Tours. Watts has a master’s degree in communications and a bachelor’s degree in history from Rowan University, and since 2000, he has led a wide range of different tours and experiences in Old Town Alexandria, including African American, Civil War, colonial, family-focused, and ghost tours.
During Alexandria’s Original Ghost & Graveyard Tour, you can follow a Colonial-costumed guide by lantern light through the beautiful streets of Alexandria’s Old Town historic district. You will hear plenty of legends, folklore, unsolved mysteries, ghost stories, tales of romance, and stories of angry ghosts searching for revenge during this fun and entertaining tour. The walking tour lasts about one hour and covers about six blocks. Keep in mind that this tour is most appropriate for ages nine and up, but all ages are welcome, as long as children are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
